Ellie has been teaching Pilates since 1990. She is an internationally recognized Pilates instructor, is the inventor of the Pilates Springboard, and is author of eight Pilates books including Pilates for Dummies. Ellie also holds a Master of Science degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. 


Anna began her career in movement when she entered the dance program at Marymount Manhattan College of Liberal Arts on New York City's Upper East Side. There she trained in both ballet and modern dance with a strong focus in the Martha Graham technique. After completing her BFA in Dance, she was introduced to the Kane School of Core Integration. It was there that she discovered Pilates as an aid to better understanding movement in dance and everyday life. When Ellie Herman decided to move her business to the East Coast, Anna was part of the first teacher training program. 

Lauren bernard

MASTER TRAINER AND TEACHER TRAINING INSTRUCTOR  - Lauren graduated from University of the Arts with a degree in dance performance before obtaining her Pilates certification through Ellie Herman. As a professional dancer who has experienced injuries and physical stresses of many kinds, Lauren found confidence and at times pain relief through Pilates. Whether the goal is to strengthen and tone, or to alleviate pain and heal an injury, she aims to empower her clients with awareness, understanding, and faith in their own body's abilities. 

After teaching at Ellie Herman Studios, various studios and gyms, dancing professionally, and nursing an injury through physical therapy, Lauren brings years of personal experience to Ellie's teacher training program.  Her own teaching background has introduced her to a wide range of clientele.  This allows her to inform and guide Teacher Trainers on how to navigate the various issues and limitations that might arise when teaching.  With a measured persistence and detail-oriented approach she will prepare students for Ellie's teacher training as well as the certification test out.  She is also available for private and semi-private Teacher Trainings in the Ellie Herman Method.    

Jeanie Clay

MASTER TRAINER - Originally from Virginia, Jeanie Clay was introduced to Pilates through her dance instructors. She was drawn to the increased strength, the overall sense of well-being, and the remarkable improvement Pilates made to her dance technique. She began her movement career as a professional dancer and teacher at an early age and decided to pursue a BFA in Dance at Redford University, under the guidance of Inessa Plekhanova. After completing her degree, Jeanie went on to dance professionally and pursue choreography in Denver, CO. She transitioned to NYC in 2008 to continue along this path. She received her Pilates certification from Ellie Herman. Jeanie is currently teaching full-time at Ellie Herman Pilates. 

Erica Essner

MASTER TRAINER - Erica Essner is a Pilates Method instructor, choreographer, and Teaching Artist. She takes an innovative approach to Pilates while maintaining the flow, breath, and movement, which the original form intended. She has two certifications: the first from Ellie Herman, and the second from Jennifer Stacy of Peak Performance in San Francisco, with additional studies at the St. Francis Sports Medicine Clinic. Her professional dance background--teaching and directing a dance company--helps compliment her dynamic approach to movement.

MASTER TRAINER - Kesa Huey is a professional dancer, teacher, and arts administrator. She has been practicing Pilates for 16 years and dancing even longer. Looking for ways to stay healthy and strong, she always winds around to more Pilates. She received her Pilates teacher certification with Ellie Herman. Kesa has an extensive background in ballet and modern dance, and currently works with Ana Isabel Keilson (NY) and Anne-Sophie Fenner's flowingdancecompany (Zurich). Kesa graduated magna cum laude from the University of Washington in anthropology and dance. 


MASTER PILATES TRAINER - Patricia Maples received her Pilates certification through Ellie Herman and is also an ERYT-200 certified yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance. She has studied with Irene Dowd, Paul Grilley, Kevin Bowen, and Michelle Larson. Patricia has also completed Kula Yoga's advanced teacher training and is currently finishing her 300-hour teacher training under the tutelage of Alison West at Yoga Union. Patricia is a certified massage therapist, experienced in Swedish, neuro-muscular, and Thai yoga massage, and is a Level 2 Reiki practitioner. Patricia is also passionate about nutrition. 


MASTER PILATES TRAINER - Tracie Matthews is a certified Pilates Instructor and a certified Movement Educator RSME in New York City. Her professional training includes kinesthetic anatomy with Irene Dowd, Dynamic Embodiment with Dr. Martha Eddy, as well as numerous professional continuing education courses with the PMA, ACE, Pilates Style, Body Mind Dancing, and others. In addition, she is experienced in working with professional postural issues, pre and post–natal, clients in post–rehab, actors, dancers and other professional movers. Tracie’s keen observation skills coupled with her effortless skills as a Pilates communicator challenge and nurture her clients through the Pilates exercises in privates, duets and workshops. She is always working to guide, inspire, and challenge her clients through movement and the mind-body connection. Tracie strives to provide a quality and personal movement experience to meet the health, fitness, and postural goals of each person.

Freddie Pearson

MASTER PILATES TRAINER - Freddie Pearson is a movement artist focused on the function and form of the human being, motor performance, and control. Earning his BFA in Dance from New York University, Freddie has also studied under Pilates Elder Kathy Grant, certified under Pilates Master Trainer Ellie Herman, trained with Irene Dowd and Lynn Martin (Kinesthetic Anatomy, Ideokinesis, & Breathing Coordination), Dynamic Alignment and Imagery with Eric Franklin, and Yoga and Qigong Relaxation with Master Frankie Hart, along with many others.

Anne vick

MASTER TRAINER - Originally from Denver, Colorado, Anne came to New York to study Dance and Theatre at New York University where she earned a BFA in Performance and a BA in English.

Her love for Pilates began as a girl when she was introduced to it as part of her training with Colorado Ballet.  Many years later, after a car accident in the city, Pilates was invaluable in her recovery process.  Inspired by the changes she saw in her body, she became a teacher so she could share the benefits of Pilates with others! She is fully certified through Balanced Body Pilates and teaches at several of New York’s most prestigious studios. Anne still performs in New York City and regionally in Musical Theatre and Dance shows. Her classes incorporate her joy of movement, with a focus on breath and specific intention for a workout that is both challenging and fun.

Sarah Dames

SENIOR TRAINER - Sarah is a dancer and performance artist originally from Louisville, KY.  Sarah began incorporating Pilates into her movement practice while attending Point Park University, where she received her degree in dance.  Sarah is eager to share her experience with movement through Pilates and the impact it has had on her life as a dancer and artist!

Meghan Frederick

SENIOR TRAINER - Meghan has been dancing since before she could walk and is thrilled to be making a career of it in New York City. She grew up in coastal Maine and graduated from Hampshire College in 2007 with a self-designed degree in cultural studies. Meghan currently dances with Brian Brooks Moving Company. 

Rosie O'Hare

SENIOR TRAINER - A former gymnast, Róisín (Rosie) O’ Hare originally hails from Ireland. A previous gymnast, she moved to New York in 1994, and feels that she has at last discovered her vocation in life. Returning to Ireland for a few years in the 2000’s Rosie completed a 200 hour Yoga teacher Training Certification with the YTTC in 2008 and received her Active IQ Level 2 in Gym Instructing in 2009, in Belfast, N. Ireland.

An avid scuba diver, skier, hiker and kayacker, Rosie loves the outdoors and is most happy when she is up in the mountains. “Physically, I have never felt stronger in my life than when I am doing Pilates on a regular basis. It improves all activities that I participate in and makes me feel agile, solid, and flexible all at the same time! Complimenting my daily Yoga practice, it has has made me feel so connected to my body and so healthy in my everyday existence.”

Rosie is currently a certified trainer at the Ellie Herman Studios, having completed the teacher training with Ellie Herman. Rosie works with clients of all ages and levels and feels great when she’s helping people feel better about themselves.

Celine Syslo

SENIOR TRAINER - Celine Syslo received her BFA in Dance Performance on scholarship from Arizona State University in 2010. Shortly after graduating, she moved to New York City to pursue her career in movement. She has had the privilege of working with a number of local artists and is currently a company member of Suzanne Behars Dance. Celine was introduced to Pilates in college where she studied under Virgina Nicholas of Moving Breath Pilates in Tempe. Celine has completed her certification training through Ellie Herman and looks forward to sharing her love of movement through teaching.

Flannery Gregg

CERTIFIED TRAINER - Flannery Gregg is a West-Coast-meets-East-Coast movement artist who has had the opportunity to dance and perform for a variety of choreographers and companies from California to New York. She is a San Diego native and a graduate of the World Arts & Cultures Dance Department at the University of California, Los Angeles. Flannery relocated to New York City to pursue opportunities in the performing arts and wellness. She is a certified personal trainer through the American Council of Exercise and is thrilled to be a trainer at Ellie Herman Pilates. 

Caitlin Ghosio

CERTIFIED TRAINER - Caitlin Ghosio is originally from Long Island, where she had the opportunity to begin her movement career with Ballet Long Island as a company member and teacher. She was introduced to Pilates as a student at Marymount Manhattan College while she worked towards her Bachelor’s in Dance.  After graduation, Caitlin merged her dance background with her passion for fitness by completing her training with Ellie Herman.  She is also certified in Suspension Training through TRX.

CERTIFIED TRAINER - Raised in Texas, Tiffany moved to New York to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts for acting, where she received her BFA.  She was introduced to Pilates in 2008 when a friend was going thru Ellie Herman’s teacher training and needed a body on which to practice.  It was love at first neutral spine. As her practice began to inform and improve her day to day functionality, Tiffany realized that Pilates had become an invaluable necessity and was inspired to become a teacher herself.  She is thrilled to be teaching classes and private sessions at Ellie Herman Studio.

CERTIFIED TRAINER - Kelly Morrisette is a North Carolina native and a lifelong mover with a background in classical ballet.  She is a graduate of UNC Greensboro where she studied mathematics and French.  Upon moving to NYC she pursued an interest in Pilates as a way to get back in shape, and found that it changed her not only physically but her whole outlook on life.  After a few years, she decided to deepen and expand her knowledge of the practice and received certification from Ellie Herman Studios. An analytic thinker, Kelly applies logic and mindfulness to her approach as a Pilates instructor.  She has an intrinsic knowledge of the body and movement that allows her to explain the mind-body connection to her clients. Giving those she works with a new found functionality by feeling stronger and empowered, is what Kelly strives to achieve with each session.

Aimee Plauche

CERTIFIED TRAINER - Aimee Plauche is a movement teacher and choreographer originally from Liburn, GA. She holds a BFA in Dance from Florida State University, received her Pilates training from Ellie Herman, and is certified in GYROKINESIS®. She is constantly inspired by the ability of Pilates and movement to heal the body and transform lives. An aspiring physical therapist and a bit of an anatomy nerd, Aimee has focused her continuing studies on anatomy and injury rehabilitation protocols, through courses including Experiential Anatomy with Joanna Nobbe and FAMI with Kinected. She infuses her sessions with precise instruction, fun imagery, and her own love of movement.  While not teaching, Aimee can be found creating dance-theater with her company, Aimee Plauche & Performers.

Lenny Reisner

CERTIFIED TRAINER - Lenny grew up outside of Boston and was never aware of Pilates until a roommate recommended it for back and core strength.  After that first class, Lenny regularly took Mat classes twice a week for five years straight before discovering the Reformer.  His passion for the wellness and energy that Pilates brought to him inspired the desire to become a teacher.

After years of trainings and moving to New York, Lenny received his comprehensive certification through Balanced Body University, became a Pilates Method Alliance® Certified Pilates Teacher, and is training as a Core Align® instructor.  His favorite piece of equipment is the Mat, but he honors the healing, wellness, and alignment feedback and benefits that all the equipment provides.  He is continually taking trainings, observing and thinking of ways to bring challenging, successful and invigorating workouts to all his clients.  Specific trainings include work with osteoporosis, rotational sports and scoliosis.  In his classes you will receive the utmost of attention, and find encouragement and support to help you attain your goals whether it be train for dance, improve your golf game, or among others, find balance and strength.

Hannah Zin

CERTIFIED TRAINER - Hannah is originally from Pittsburgh, PA, where she received her early dance training with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School. She then went on to graduate summa cum laude from Fordham University & The Ailey School with a BFA in Dance and Art History. Faced at a young age with potentially career-ending injuries, she turned to Pilates as her daily workout and rehabilitation. Currently working as a professional dancer in NYC, Hannah has completed her comprehensive certification with Pilates Master Teacher Ellie Herman to share the Method and its benefits with others!

APPRENTICE TRAINER - After a decade of practice, Alice seized the opportunity to participate in Ellie’s teacher program to share the gift of Pilates through teaching: a strong, pain-free body that functions optimally, and the understanding of one’s limitations and how to correct and overcome them. As a lifelong athlete, Pilates is the foundation for her performance. Alice's particular focus is on pre- and post-natal exercise.

Rebecca Causey

APPRENTICE TRAINER - After practicing and teaching Hatha Yoga for nearly a decade, Rebecca found her way to Pilates as a last ditch effort to avoid hip surgery… And it worked!  After experiencing such profound physical change, she decided to attend Pilates teacher training with Ellie Herman in order to share this healing practice with others as well as incorporate Pilates principles into the yoga she teaches. Rebecca is constantly working to refine her understanding of anatomy and kinesiology and strives to bring curiosity, playfulness and precision when working with her clients.

LAUREN o'leary

APPRENTICE TRAINER - Lauren O'Leary is a native of Syracuse, New York, where she began her early dance training at Dance Centre North.  She attended Point Park University where she received her B.A. in Dance, concentration in Ballet with a Business Management minor December, 2014.  Lauren was introduced to Pilates after undergoing two knee surgeries while at Point Park University. Since moving to New York City to continue her journey as a professional dancer, she joined Ellie Herman's teacher program. Ellie's program has changed her life.  It was the best form of recovery from her latest knee surgery.  The program has increased her strength, made her more self aware of her body, better health and saved her dancing career. Lauren hopes to do the same for others by teaching Pilates.  In addition to teaching Pilates at Ellie Herman Pilates Studio, Lauren is a professional dancer with Burklyn Ballet Theatre.

YOGA INSTRUCTOR - Cari has studied with master teachers since 1995 and has been teaching since 2001.  She is a dedicated and gifted teacher who combines exceptional technical knowledge with an ability to recognize and respond to each student’s individual needs. Regarded for her ability to impart a clear understanding of structure, stability and strength, Cari’s classes manage to be both challenging and nourishing. Most importantly, Cari creates a safe space for all students, inspiring trust, risk-taking, vulnerability and ultimately, confidence. Her primary motivation in teaching is to help students understand a transformative yoga practices begins with a willingness to become aware of our personal habits. Her mission is to support students to make the unconscious, conscious through organization of the body, mind and breath. 

bethany strauss

YOGA INSTRUCTOR - Bethany has been practicing various styles of yoga for fifteen years and teaching for six.  She holds her 200 hour certification from ISHTA Yoga and her 300 hour certification from YogaWorks.  She has taught at YogaWorks for six years and has served as an assistant teacher trainer in the YogaWorks teacher training program.  She is passionate about sharing yoga with others in an accessible, personable and light-hearted manner.  In addition to yoga she loves studying flamenco dance.  She is thrilled to be joining the Ellie Herman Pilates staff.    

Jules Bakshi

DANCE INSTRUCTOR - Jules Bakshi is a Brooklyn-based dancer, choreographer, and body coach. She is the managing director of acclaimed Douglas Dunn + Dancers, and a performer in the company. Jules freelances with Pilobolus Dance Theater and is artistic director of her own modern dance company, Subtle Details Dance Theater. Subtle Details has been presented by Gowns Art + Production, the National Academy Museum, DUMBO Dance Festival, Williamsburg Historical Society, Picasso Machinery, The Current Sessions, Triskelion Arts, and others. Jules' choreography has been featured in music videos for recording artists Mac Miller, The Suzan, and Theo Martins; in special projects for MTV India; and several commercial ads. Jules is the founder of HOT BITCH NYC, a body-positive dance, Pilates, cardio, and hairography class for all levels. She is currently in school to become a certified health coach.
