Master of Pilates

Earn a Master of Pilates Degree from Ellie Herman Studios!

-Apprentice with Master Pilates Instructors over a 2-year period & expand your knowledge and keep your practice thriving and your spirit alive.

-Develop personal and enduring relationships with talented leaders in the Pilates field from the East and West Coasts.

-Focus on subjects that interest you and organize a program that fits your schedule.

-Study with Ellie Herman and choose from the faculty to develop mentorship relationships.

Requirements for Completion:

80 Hours of Total Coursework: any combination of Private Sessions, Master Classes, Weekend Workshops, and Mini conferences that add up to 80 total hours. People who have not been certified by Ellie Herman may take Teacher Training Modules and count them as credit toward their Masters Program.

10 hours Observation: 10 hours minimum observation of Ellie Herman and Faculty over 2 years

1 hour Master Case Study Presentation. Written and oral presentation taking one of your difficult clients, and integrating the subjects and skills you have learned. Included in the Case Study will be Postural Assessment and a Pilates Protocol for the client. For those who live abroad or out of state, the oral presentation can be done via phone or skype. This can be scheduled individually with Ellie Herman. This will be considered one private session with Ellie Herman.

Weekend Workshops: Saturday & Sunday courses will be offered at both the Brooklyn & Oakland studios on Saturday and Sunday afternoons throughout the year. See the Ellie Herman Academy Calendar for details.

Master Classes: 1-hour classes taught by Ellie Herman & Faculty offered throughout the year at Ellie Herman Studios in Brooklyn & Oakland. These can be taken as drop-in or as an 8-week series. $30/each, 8-week series: $200. Check the Studios’ class schedules for days and times. Oakland Class Schedule

Teacher Training Modules: Anyone that has not been certified by Ellie Herman may take her Teacher Training Modules toward credit in the Pilates Masters Program. Ellie highly recommends attending these modules especially for those who did not receive sufficient anatomy and kinesiology in their original training. Get a deeper understanding of the Pilates repertoire and exposure to postural assessment in action, corrective and rehabilitation applications of the exercises. Students enrolled in the Masters Program get 10% off the price of Teacher Training Modules. Modules range from $250-$475 depending on the length of the module. Personalized Study with Ellie Herman & Faculty Do a private mentorship with Ellie Herman and Faculty. Or if you are from out of town, come early or stay late around a Mini Conference, Workshop, or Teacher Training module to do Master Classes, Private Sessions or Semi-Privates, and observation at the Ellie Herman Studio. Ellie Herman

Ellie has been teaching Pilates for twenty years. She is an internationally recognized Pilates Teacher and author of eight Pilates books, including Pilates for Dummies. Jennifer Kries

Jennifer Kries was one of the first to bring Pilates to the masses, through her award-winning DVDs, The Method Series, and her Fox/Fit TV’s The Method Show, Jennifer first discovered Pilates at age 13 and went on to study with three of Joseph Pilates disciples throughout her professional dance career, starting with Eve Gentry, moving on to Romana Kryzanowska and Ron Fletcher. Denise Vidal

Pilates Tools for Special Populations

Denise was certified in Pilates instruction & Standing Pilates Instruction with the Physical Mind Institute, and with Balanced Body University. She has studied very closely with Doris Pasteleur Hall and Lesley Powell, CMA, while continuing her education with Irene Dowd, Eric Franklin, and Tom Myers. Denise has danced professionally with the Pennsylvania Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, and the New Chamber Ballet. Currently, Denise is earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at City University of New York.

Doris Pasteleur Hall

Anatomy in Clay® - Brooklyn

Doris Pasteleur Hall is an internationally known Pilates teacher who began studying in the 1970’s with Alan Herdman famed for opening the first Pilates Studio in Britain. Doris came to New York to study with Romana Kryszanowska and then Carola Trier, who became her mentor. Doris most recently has been leading Teacher Training programs and Professional Workshops at New York’s Movements Afoot and Japan’s Pilates Movements Space, creating workshops that balance anatomy, observation, cueing and hands-on work.

Lizz Roman

Rehabilitation, Muscle testing & The Work Of Janda - Oakland

Lizz Roman, a professional dancer, was initially introduced to Pilates in 1986. She has had extensive training with Jayne Edwards in neuromuscular reeducation, and has integrated Janda’s program of progressive balance and proprioceptive challenges to improve overall body posture, muscle balance, joint stability and speed of muscle contraction into her own approach to Pilates rehab.

Devona Cartier

Body Reading, Body Rolling, Palpative Anatomy- Brooklyn

Devona has been teaching Pilates since 2000. She is familiar with a wide variety of styles of Pilates, from the original choreography to rehabilitation. Her focus in Pilates is to help clients move with better body efficiency, and fitness. She can easily adjust to the learning styles, and personal goals of clients, creating work outs with a focus on stress relief and relaxation, or a driving brisk workout, and any where in between. Devona has a real talent for pinpointing what creates an imbalance in the body and giving the client what they need to create balance, helping the client to understand how their body works along the way.
